About Amherst Count, VA:

Amherst County is located in Central Virginia, 15 miles north of the City of Lynchburg and 50 miles south of the City of Charlottesville along the US 29 corridor. The county is bordered by the Tye & Piney Rivers to the north, the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west, and the James River to the south and east. Amherst County covers 479 square miles, with 10 square miles being water, and is home to approximately 32,000 residents.

Lakes – Four public lakes for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking: Mill Creek, Thrashers Lake, Otter Lake, and Stonehouse Lake.
