Volunteers & Chaperones

ACPS values and promotes the active engagement of the community in our schools. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or chaperone, please contact the building administration at any of our schools to discuss opportunities. We appreciate your willingness to support the schools in our community!

All volunteers and chaperones, which includes all parents and family members who wish to attend a school-sponsored field trip, must complete a background check through the Human Resources Department and receive approval from the Human Resources office before attending. This requirement applies regardless of the individual's role during the trip, including those serving as chaperones or supervising student groups, as well as those attending alongside the group without supervisory responsibilities.

Please be advised:

• No cost to families: Background checks are provided at no cost to parents or family members.
• Processing time: Electronic results are generally received within 24–48 hours when no charges or convictions are identified. If charges or convictions are identified, results may be mailed and take several weeks to arrive.
• Human Resources review and approval: Human Resources must receive and review the results and communicate an approval or denial determination to the parent/guardian before the individual may attend. Their name will be placed on the Volunteer list by the Human Resources department. Only serious convictions that may jeopardize the safety and well-being of students will be considered grounds for denying participation.
• Advance planning: Please allow sufficient time for the background check and review process when planning upcoming field trips. Completion of the background check alone does not constitute approval.
• Confirmation before participation: A parent or family member may not attend unless Human Resources has completed its review and approved participation. If the process is not completed before the scheduled departure, the individual will not be permitted to attend.
